On December 16, the USS SAVANNAH (LCS 28), a battleship from the United States of America, arrived at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (SAP) in Preah Sihanouk province for a five-day visit.
The U.S. naval delegation received a warm welcome from Admiral Mean Savoeun, Deputy Commander of the Ream Naval Base, along with other naval officers and relevant local authorities.
According to the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, the visit, taking place from December 16 to 20, aims to deepen friendship and promote bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and the United States.
The USS SAVANNAH measures 127.4 meters in length, 31.6 meters in width, and 6.19 meters in depth. It is crewed by 103 personnel and led by Commander Daniel A. Sledz.
During their visit, the U.S. delegation is scheduled to meet with the commander of Ream Naval Base and provincial leaders of Preah Sihanouk. A friendly football match is also planned between the U.S. crew and the Cambodian naval team.
Since 2007, SAP has welcomed 27 U.S. battleships. However, the arrival of USS SAVANNAH marks the first docking of a U.S. battleship at SAP in eight years, following a prolonged postponement.
This visit symbolizes renewed efforts to strengthen military and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
