In a significant diplomatic engagement, His Excellency KUNG Phoak, Secretary of State and ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) Leader of Cambodia, met with His Excellency Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs and ASEAN SOM Leader of India. This important bilateral meeting took place on June 6, 2024, alongside the proceedings of the ASEAN SOM and Related Meetings.

The discussion primarily centered on expanding and deepening the cooperative ties between Cambodia and India, exploring avenues within both the bilateral frameworks and the broader ASEAN initiatives. The meeting was marked by a mutual commitment to enhance relations and a shared understanding of the potential growth benefits for both nations.

Topics on the agenda included increasing trade and investment, boosting cultural exchanges, and enhancing mutual understanding through education and people-to-people contacts. Both leaders examined the current status of their collaboration and discussed strategies for future engagements. They acknowledged the progress in economic, cultural, and academic fields and agreed on the importance of continuing these successful pathways.

Furthermore, the dialogue touched upon infrastructure development, a key area where India’s expertise and investment could support Cambodia’s growth ambitions. The collaboration could potentially extend to critical sectors such as technology, healthcare, and sustainable development, aligning with global and domestic priorities of both countries.

Recognizing the challenges posed by regional and global dynamics, His Excellency KUNG Phoak and His Excellency Jaideep Mazumdar deliberated on collaborative strategies that could reinforce both nations’ standings on regional and international platforms. Issues such as regional security, climate change, and economic resilience were discussed with a focus on crafting joint approaches that would benefit not only Cambodia and India but also contribute positively to the ASEAN region’s stability and prosperity.

The leaders agreed to keep a fluid communication channel open, ensuring that both countries continually align their strategies and work on implementing them effectively. They also reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and agreed to address global challenges cooperatively, demonstrating the value of strengthened Cambodian-Indian relations in nurturing a balanced and harmonious international order.

This bilateral meeting underscores the ongoing commitment of Cambodia and India to forge a stronger and more resilient partnership, aiming to create a shared future of prosperity and cooperation. Both countries anticipate that these continued dialogues and cooperative efforts will lead to substantial outcomes, benefiting their peoples and contributing to the greater ASEAN region’s development and peace initiatives.
