Cambodia, famous for its ancient temples and vibrant culture, is fast becoming a sought-after destination for golf enthusiasts. From world-class resorts designed by renowned architects to beautifully landscaped courses, Cambodia offers an unparalleled golfing experience. Whether you’re teeing off near the historic Angkor Wat in Siem Reap or enjoying the lush greens near Phnom Penh, these golf courses blend challenge, comfort, and scenic beauty.

1. Angkor Golf Resort, Siem Reap

Designed by Sir Nick Faldo, Angkor Golf Resort is Cambodia’s premier golf course and a must-visit for serious golfers. Opened in 2007, this par-72 course combines challenging layouts with pristine landscapes. Angkor Golf Resort is known for its strategic water hazards and bunkers that test even seasoned players. Golfers appreciate the proximity to the temples of Angkor Wat, making it a perfect mix of golf and culture.

Along with its challenging layout, the course features world-class facilities, including a luxury clubhouse, pro shop, and coaching from PGA professionals. The course has hosted several international tournaments and is frequently praised for its immaculate maintenance.

2. Phokeethra Country Club, Siem Reap

Located just a short distance from Angkor Golf Resort, Phokeethra Country Club offers an equally delightful golfing experience. Managed by Sofitel, this course is part of a larger luxury resort. The par-72 course stretches over 7,145 yards, with wide fairways and well-placed bunkers. It is known for hosting the prestigious Johnnie Walker Classic and the Asian Tour’s Cambodian Open.

The historic Roluh Bridge on the course, dating back to the Angkorian era, adds a unique historical charm to the golfing experience. Visitors also appreciate the excellent practice facilities and the luxurious clubhouse.

3. Garden City Golf Club, Phnom Penh

Situated just 15 kilometers northeast of Phnom Penh, Garden City Golf Club is a relatively new course, having opened in 2013. It quickly gained a reputation for its superb course conditions, thanks to its Seashore Paspalum turf and expert management by IMG. The 18-hole, par-72 course is set on 240 acres, offering a calm, relaxing environment for golfers.

With its wide fairways, water hazards, and undulating greens, Garden City Golf Club is perfect for both amateur and professional players. Its luxurious clubhouse, featuring a restaurant and a pro shop, enhances the overall experience.

4. Vattanac Golf Resort, Phnom Penh

Vattanac Golf Resort, another top-tier facility designed by Sir Nick Faldo, offers two 18-hole courses: the East and West courses. The East Course, open to the public, spans over 7,400 yards and features replicas of Cambodia’s most iconic temples, including Angkor Wat and Preah Vihear. The West Course, which opened in 2020, is reserved for private members and is equally stunning, with challenging bunkers and carefully maintained greens.

Both courses at Vattanac Golf Resort boast year-round top-notch maintenance, making them an ideal choice for golfers seeking luxury and exclusivity. The resort’s pro shop, fine dining, and spa facilities further elevate the experience, providing a seamless blend of golfing and leisure.

5. Cambodia Golf & Country Club, Phnom Penh

As Cambodia’s first golf course, Cambodia Golf & Country Club holds a special place in the country’s golfing history. Opened in 1996, this par-72 course is located 33 kilometers from Phnom Penh and features a classic design with tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers. The course is known for its laid-back atmosphere, making it a favorite among local golfers and expatriates.

While the course may not have the modern amenities of newer courses, it offers a nostalgic experience with its lush surroundings and peaceful setting. Golfers looking for a traditional golf experience in Cambodia will enjoy this course.

6. Royal Cambodia Phnom Penh Golf Club

Just a 20-minute drive from central Phnom Penh, Royal Cambodia Phnom Penh Golf Club is another excellent option for golfers. The 18-hole course spans over 7,075 yards, offering a flat yet challenging layout. It is surrounded by rice paddies and coconut palms, providing a scenic backdrop for a relaxing game of golf.

This course is particularly popular with expatriates and locals alike due to its proximity to the city and its reasonably priced green fees. The club offers basic amenities, including a driving range and a clubhouse, making it ideal for a casual round.

7. Dara Sakor Golf Resort, Koh Kong

Dara Sakor Golf Resort, located along Cambodia’s southern coast, is a hidden gem in the country’s golfing landscape. This 54-hole resort features three 18-hole courses: the Ocean Course, Mountain Course, and Links Course. Each course offers a unique challenge, from the coastal views on the Ocean Course to the hilly terrain on the Mountain Course.

Located about two and a half hours from Sihanoukville International Airport, Dara Sakor is perfect for those looking to combine a beach vacation with golf. The resort’s luxurious amenities, including its casino complex and world-class spa, ensure a relaxing stay for visitors.

8. Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club

Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club, located just six kilometers from the town center, is another top-tier course in Siem Reap. This par-72, 18-hole course is known for its wide fairways and large greens, making it ideal for golfers of all skill levels. Designed by Kentaro Sato, the course offers stunning views of the Cambodian countryside and provides excellent scoring opportunities.

The course is well-maintained and features a luxurious clubhouse with dining and pro shop facilities. Golfers visiting Siem Reap for its temples should not miss the opportunity to play at this scenic course.

9. Chhun On Golf Resort, Phnom Penh

Chhun On Golf Resort is one of the newer golf courses in Cambodia, offering a palm-lined, 18-hole championship layout. Designed by the renowned Schmidt-Curley Design firm, this resort promises to elevate Phnom Penh’s golfing scene. Located an hour’s drive north of Phnom Penh, the resort is within easy reach of major tourist attractions like the Royal Palace and National Museum.

The well-manicured fairways and modern facilities make Chhun On Golf Resort a promising addition to Cambodia’s growing portfolio of golf courses. It is perfect for golfers seeking a blend of modern design and traditional Cambodian hospitality.

Golfing Tourism and Growth in Cambodia

Cambodia’s rise as a golf destination can be attributed to its strategic investment in high-quality courses and the country’s appeal as a cultural and leisure hotspot. With each new course, Cambodia has positioned itself as a must-visit location for golfers traveling through Southeast Asia. As golf tourism grows, courses like Angkor Golf Resort, Phokeethra, and Vattanac Golf Resort continue to attract international tournaments and discerning travelers.

In addition to golf, Cambodia’s rich history and stunning landscapes offer golfers an unmatched cultural experience. Visitors can explore the temples of Angkor Wat, the bustling streets of Phnom Penh, or the serene beaches of Sihanoukville after a round of golf. This blend of history, culture, and sport makes Cambodia an ideal destination for golfers looking for more than just a round on the green.

Cambodia’s golf courses offer something for everyone, from challenging championship layouts to relaxing rounds surrounded by nature. With world-class facilities, luxurious resorts, and stunning scenery, Cambodia is quickly becoming one of Southeast Asia’s premier golfing destinations. Whether you are an experienced golfer looking for a new challenge or a casual player seeking a memorable vacation, Cambodia’s golf courses provide the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable experience.
