The China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) has recently finalized the feasibility study for the much-anticipated Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway. This vital infrastructure project, now entering a crucial phase, promises to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth across Cambodia. With the comprehensive feasibility report nearing completion, the project is set to be presented to the Cambodian government for review and evaluation.

Connecting Key Regions: Phnom Penh to Poipet

The proposed expressway, Cambodia’s third major expressway project, will span from the bustling Win-Win Boulevard in northern Phnom Penh to the strategic border city of Poipet in Banteay Meanchey Province, linking Cambodia directly with Thailand. Divided into two significant phases, this ambitious project underscores the government’s dedication to improving transportation infrastructure and regional connectivity.

The first phase, stretching 249 kilometers from Phnom Penh to the historic city of Siem Reap, is estimated to cost $2.5 billion. The second phase will extend the expressway from Siem Reap to Poipet, covering an additional 151 kilometers with a budget of $1.7 billion. These substantial investments reflect the government’s strategic vision to enhance traffic conditions and boost logistics efficiency across the region.

Comprehensive Surveys and Preparations

CRBC has diligently conducted extensive surveys to ensure the project’s success. These include traffic volume surveys, hydrological assessments, geotechnical investigations, topographical studies, and surveys of cultural relics and nature reserves. This meticulous groundwork is essential for crafting a detailed and accurate report, which will soon be submitted to the government for approval.

A Milestone for Economic Growth

Phan Rim, the spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), emphasized the significance of this milestone. “The Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway Project is a large one and reflects the strong will of the government to improve traffic conditions, transportation of goods, and logistics to Cambodia’s major tourist sites and the Cambodia-Thailand border,” he stated. The expressway is poised to transform transportation, making travel faster and more efficient, and facilitating smoother movement of goods and people across the region.

CRBC’s Continued Commitment to Cambodia

CRBC’s dedication to developing Cambodia’s infrastructure is evident in their ongoing projects. The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, already operational, required an investment of approximately $2 billion. The second expressway, from Phnom Penh to Bavet in Svay Rieng Province, currently under construction, has seen an investment of around $1.7 billion. These projects signify CRBC’s long-term commitment to enhancing Cambodia’s connectivity and economic prospects.

A Vision for the Future

The Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway is not just a road; it represents a vision for a more connected and prosperous Cambodia. By linking key cities and facilitating smoother logistics and transportation, this project will play a pivotal role in driving economic growth, attracting tourism, and fostering regional development. As Cambodia continues to invest in its infrastructure, the future looks promising for its people and economy.

The Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway stands as a testament to the Cambodian government’s resolve to improve the nation’s infrastructure and connectivity. With CRBC’s expertise and commitment, this transformative project will undoubtedly pave the way for a brighter and more connected future for Cambodia.
