The spirit of giving continues to soar as Neak Oknha Kith Meng, President of the Royal Group of companies, and his wife, Lok Chumteav Mao Chamnan, donate nearly $1 million to the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) in honor of the 160th Anniversary of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8.
This generous gesture is not the first from the couple, who are known for their annual contributions to the CRC and other charitable causes in Cambodia, including the Cambodian People’s Party election campaign.
Men Neary Sopheak, First Deputy Secretary-General of the CRC, expressed her gratitude for the couple’s continued support of humanitarian activities. Last year, Meng and his wife donated about $500,000 to the CRC.
Neary Sopheak praised Meng’s exceptional generosity, which helps provide vital services for the needy and vulnerable citizens across Cambodia. To date this year, the CRC has received donations from 215 private and public philanthropists.
“This heartwarming story of Kith Meng’s incredible donation to the Cambodian Red Cross is a testament to the power of compassion and kindness. His ongoing support, along with that of other philanthropists, is making a significant impact in improving the lives of those in need in Cambodia. It is a wonderful reminder that we can all make a difference in the world, no matter how big or small our contributions may be.”
She emphasized that all donations to the CRC are non-binding and voluntary. In 2021, the CRC received over $15 million in donations from 1,000 philanthropists, providing essential aid to more than 80,000 impoverished and vulnerable families.
The CRC is committed to humanitarian activities, including raising awareness and educating people about COVID-19 prevention and other public health initiatives. Neary Sopheak highlighted the CRC’s dedication to strengthening community resilience and alleviating suffering for the most vulnerable people in Cambodia.
Adhering to the principles of charity in line with the International Red Cross movement’s humanitarian objectives, the CRC encourages anyone interested in donating to visit their headquarters in person.
