In a meeting with over 5,000 representatives of Cambodia’s informal economy at OCIC in Phnom Penh, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the importance of diversifying goods and boosting domestic production both for domestic consumption and export.

During the meeting on Sunday, the premier underscored the government’s goal of not only enabling production within Cambodia but ensuring that it is carried out by Cambodian people themselves. Highlighting the significance of this undertaking, Hun Manet emphasized that while foreign companies may facilitate production in Cambodia, it is essential for the drive and ownership to come from the Cambodian people.

Drawing inspiration from his recent visit to Laos, where he observed around 30 Cambodian enterprises leading production activities driven by Cambodian people, Hun Manet expressed his pride in this achievement and considered it a source of national pride.

Additionally, the prime minister acknowledged the improved skills of Cambodia’s human resources, recognizing the positive developments in their capabilities.

Hun Manet reiterated that the policy established by the seventh-mandate Royal Government, as well as preceding mandates, aims to enhance productivity, promote ownership, and empower Cambodian people to manufacture products for local consumption. Looking ahead, Cambodia aims to make further progress in modern production and achieve even greater accomplishments.

The prime minister’s call to diversify goods and boost domestic production aligns with the government’s vision of reducing reliance on imports and promoting self-sufficiency. By empowering Cambodian people to take a leading role in production activities, the aim is to enhance productivity, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the overall economic development of the country.

As Cambodia continues to evolve and modernize, the development of a strong domestic production sector is crucial. This shift towards self-reliance and increased domestic production not only supports the local economy but also strengthens Cambodia’s position in the global market by showcasing its capabilities to manufacture high-quality goods.

Prime Minister Hun Manet’s advocacy for increased domestically produced goods reflects the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and empowering its people. By focusing on building a robust domestic production sector, Cambodia can achieve greater economic stability, reduced dependence on imports, and an overall improvement in the quality of life for its citizens.
